RoadScope — Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 11 December 2025
Please read these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before using RoadScope.
By accessing or using the RoadScope website and services, you (“you” or “User”)
agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use RoadScope.
1. Definition of Service
What is RoadScope
RoadScope (“the Service”) is a web-based tool that visualises mobile speed camera
corridor data on an interactive map. It combines open map data with officially published road
safety camera locations to help users see where mobile speed cameras may operate in Victoria,
Australia (and potentially other areas of Australia).
Key features include:
-
an interactive map (using OpenStreetMap data) with overlays highlighting mobile speed camera
corridors (areas or road segments where mobile speed cameras are approved to operate)
-
periodically updated information about camera locations based on data published by the Victorian
Government (and possibly other Australian state authorities)
- two tiers of access:
- a Free tier that allows general use of the map with some limitations
-
a Paid tier that offers expanded access (for example, additional details, extended data or
advanced features)
- login via Google Sign-In to distinguish free vs paid users
- payments handled via Stripe for users who choose to upgrade to the Paid tier
Early Access / MVP Status
RoadScope is currently in an Early Access or MVP (Minimum Viable Product) stage. This means:
- the Service is under active development
- the Service may have bugs, incomplete features, or inaccuracies
- functionality, design and data coverage may change over time
You acknowledge and accept that the Service is not a finished product and may not be free of defects.
RoadScope is provided by a sole trader in Victoria, Australia. Any references to “we” or
“us” in these Terms refer to the owner/operator of RoadScope.
2. Accounts and Eligibility
2.1 Eligibility – 18+ Only
- You must be at least 18 years old to use RoadScope.
-
By accessing the Service or creating an account via Google Sign-In, you represent and warrant that
you are 18 years of age or older.
- If you are under 18, you are not permitted to use this Service.
- We reserve the right to ask for proof of age if necessary.
2.2 Google Sign-In
- To use RoadScope (beyond any limited demo view), you must log in using Google Identity Services.
- We do not offer a separate username/password system.
-
You will be redirected to Google to authenticate. Upon successful login, Google provides us with your
basic profile information (see the Privacy Policy for details).
-
By signing in, you also agree to comply with Google’s terms of service when using your Google account.
2.3 Account Responsibility
Because RoadScope uses your Google account for access:
- you are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account
- do not share your Google credentials with others or allow others to access RoadScope through your Google account
-
if you suspect unauthorised use of your Google account or of RoadScope, you should secure your Google
account (for example, change your password, revoke tokens) and notify us of any breach affecting RoadScope
We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from unauthorised use of your account, to the maximum
extent permitted by law.
2.4 Accuracy of Information
- You must provide accurate information when using the Service.
-
In practice, this primarily means using your own valid Google profile (name and email) and not
impersonating others.
-
You agree not to use a Google account that you are not authorised to use and not to impersonate any
person or entity.
- We may suspend or terminate access if we believe you have violated these requirements.
3. Subscription, Fees and Payment Terms
3.1 Free and Paid Tiers
RoadScope is available in both free and paid forms:
- the Free tier provides basic functionality at no cost
-
the Paid tier (“Premium”) offers additional or expanded features, such as broader or
richer corridor visualisation, extended history, or other advanced features
Details of what each tier includes are described on our website or within the app interface.
We may change the features of the Free or Paid tiers over time. Any significant changes to paid
features will be communicated to subscribers.
3.2 Payment Processor
- All payments for the Paid tier are handled via Stripe Checkout.
-
When you purchase a Paid plan or subscription, you are directed to Stripe’s secure checkout page.
- By submitting payment information, you agree to Stripe’s terms and conditions for payment processing.
- We do not collect your credit card details; Stripe does this on our behalf.
- Once your payment is successful, Stripe notifies us and we grant your account access to the premium features.
3.3 Pricing and Billing
- Prices for the Paid tier are stated in Australian Dollars (AUD) unless otherwise indicated.
-
The pricing and billing cycle (for example, monthly subscription, annual subscription, or one-off purchase)
will be presented to you at the time of purchase.
-
By completing a purchase, you authorise Stripe to charge your selected payment method for the specified
amount, and for recurring subscriptions you authorise charges at each renewal period until you cancel.
-
All fees include applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Where a tax (such as GST) is not included,
it will be shown at checkout.
3.4 Refunds, Trials and Consumer Guarantees
-
We may, at our discretion, offer a free trial period or limited free access to premium features. After
any trial, if you continue with a subscription, you will be charged as shown at checkout.
-
Change of mind: We generally do not offer refunds if you simply change your mind or decide you no longer
want the Paid service, provided this policy has been clearly disclosed.
-
Australian Consumer Law (ACL): Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under
the Australian Consumer Law. If the service fails to meet a consumer guarantee – for example, if
RoadScope’s premium service is not delivered as described, is substantially unfit for its purpose,
or has a major problem – you may be entitled to a remedy. This may include a refund or other form
of compensation, as appropriate, in line with the ACL.
-
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify your rights under the ACL. For how we
limit liability beyond these non-excludable rights, see Section 8 (Limitation of Liability).
3.5 Cancellation
- You may cancel a recurring subscription at any time.
-
Cancellation stops future billing. You will keep access to the Paid tier features until the end of the
current billing period you have already paid for. After that, your account will revert to the Free tier.
-
To cancel, you can follow the instructions provided in the RoadScope interface or on the Stripe
customer portal (for example, via a “Manage Subscription” link), or contact us for assistance.
- We do not charge cancellation fees.
-
If you cancel during a billing period, we do not provide pro-rata refunds for the remaining time in that
period, except where required by law.
-
For one-time purchases (if offered), once the purchase is delivered (that is, premium access granted),
it is generally non-refundable except as required under consumer law.
3.6 Failed Payments
-
If a subscription renewal payment fails (for example, due to an expired card or insufficient funds),
we or Stripe may notify you.
- We may retry the charge.
-
If payment is not completed within a reasonable time, we reserve the right to downgrade or suspend your
premium access until the issue is resolved.
3.7 Promotions and Pricing Changes
-
We may run special promotions or discounts for the Paid tier. Any such offers are subject to their
specific terms and may be time-limited.
- We may adjust pricing for the Service or introduce new charges in the future.
-
If we change pricing for existing subscribers, we will give advance notice and the new rates will apply
from the next billing cycle. If you do not agree to the price changes, you may cancel before the new
price takes effect.
4. Acceptable Use Policy
When using RoadScope, you agree to use the Service only for lawful and intended purposes. You must not:
Break Laws
-
Use RoadScope in any manner that violates any applicable laws or regulations, including traffic and
road safety laws.
-
You must not use RoadScope to attempt to evade speed enforcement in a way that violates the law.

-
Attempt to bypass or circumvent any authentication or security measures of the Service.
Disruption
-
Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the Service or the servers/networks used to provide it.
- Introduce malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
-
Engage in activities that impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure (such as denial-of-service attacks).
Scraping and Data Mining
-
Use robots, scrapers, crawlers, scripts, or any automated means to access, query, or copy data from
RoadScope without our express written permission.
-
The Service and the data it presents (such as the compiled camera corridor information) is provided for
interactive personal use via the web interface. Automated collection of our content, especially for
commercial or competitive use, is strictly prohibited.
Reverse Engineering
-
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code or underlying proprietary data
structures of the Service, except to the limited extent allowed by law.

permission (this does not affect your rights to use open government and open-source data obtained
independently from their original sources).
Impersonation and Misrepresentation
-
Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity when using RoadScope.
Malicious or Harmful Use
- Use RoadScope to harass, abuse, or harm others.
-
If we introduce interactive features in the future, you must not post unlawful, defamatory, or abusive
material via those features.
Use of Output
- The information provided by RoadScope (maps, corridor data, etc.) is for your personal informational use.
-
You must not use this information in a way that distracts or endangers you or others (for example,
interacting with the app while driving).
-
You must not rely on RoadScope as your sole source of information for critical decisions. Always exercise
your own judgment and comply with official road signs and lawful instructions.
We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations of this Acceptable Use Policy and to suspend or
terminate your access if we believe you have breached these rules. Serious violations may also be reported
to law enforcement or relevant authorities.
5. Intellectual Property Rights
5.1 Our Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise noted, all content and materials in the RoadScope Service are the intellectual property of the RoadScope owner/operator. This includes:
- the website design, layout, look and feel
- the Corridor Visualisation Layer (the compilation and presentation of mobile speed camera locations on the map)
- branding (including the name “RoadScope” and any associated logos)
- all original software code and data compilations created by us
These are protected by copyright, database rights, and other intellectual property laws.
Using the Service does not grant you ownership of any intellectual property in it. You are granted only a
limited licence to use the Service as described in these Terms.
5.2 Licence to You
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use RoadScope
for your personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms.
You must not:
-
redistribute, resell or republish any portion of the Service content without our written permission,
except as permitted by law or applicable open-data licences; or
-
create a competing service by copying or substantially reproducing our interface, visualisation logic
or compiled datasets, beyond what is permitted by open-data licences for the underlying data.
5.3 Open Data Components
RoadScope incorporates open-source/open-data components, which remain under their own licences:
OpenStreetMap (OSM)
- Map data and map imagery come from OpenStreetMap.
- Data © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).
- That licence grants rights to copy and adapt the underlying map data, subject to attribution and share-alike obligations.
Victorian Government Data
- Mobile camera location datasets are published by the State of Victoria and are typically licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
-
Under that licence, the data (for example, lists of camera coordinates or site names) may be reused by anyone,
provided proper attribution to the Victorian Government is given.
-
You are free to obtain and use those datasets directly from the government open data portal under their licence.
Our Terms do not seek to restrict your independent usage of open data obtained directly from its original sources.
5.4 Your Commitments on IP
You agree:
-
not to remove, obscure, or alter any copyright notices, attributions, or trademarks displayed in the
Service (including the “© OpenStreetMap contributors” notice and any government data attributions)
-
not to use our brand name “RoadScope” or our logos in a way that could cause confusion about your
association with us, without prior written consent
5.5 Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions or ideas about RoadScope, you agree that we may use this feedback
without obligation to you. You will not acquire any rights in improvements or modifications to the Service
arising from such feedback.

6.1 Data Attribution
We acknowledge and credit the external sources and components that make RoadScope possible:
- OpenStreetMap: Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, under ODbL.
-

safety camera locations, under CC BY 4.0. © State Government of Victoria.
-
Other Australian Data: If RoadScope expands to other states or data sources, we will similarly attribute those
in the Service or these Terms.
6.2 Google and Stripe
- “Google” and the Google logo are trademarks of Google LLC.
- “Stripe” and the Stripe logo are trademarks of Stripe, Inc.
- Their names and logos are used only to indicate integration with their services (sign-in and payments).
6.3 No Affiliation or Endorsement
RoadScope is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to:
- Google LLC
- Stripe, Inc.
- the Victorian Government, Victoria Police, or VicRoads
- the OpenStreetMap Foundation or OSM contributors
Use of their names and data is solely to provide the Service’s functionality and for factual
description. RoadScope is not an official government website or an official law-enforcement resource.
If you require official information or confirmation, you should refer to the relevant official sources.
6.4 Third-Party Terms
Your use of certain features may be subject to third-party terms. For example:
- using Google Sign-In is subject to Google’s terms of service and privacy policy
- paying via Stripe is subject to Stripe’s customer terms and privacy policy
If you violate any applicable third-party terms while using RoadScope, we may suspend or terminate your
access where necessary to protect our relationships with those providers or to comply with their requirements.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
RoadScope is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not make any express or implied warranties or representations
about the Service, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular
purpose, title, or non-infringement.
Without limiting the above:
- we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure
- we do not guarantee that any defects will be corrected, or that the Service will always be available
- as an MVP, the Service may contain bugs, limitations or other issues
Data accuracy and completeness
-
We update camera location data periodically (for example, when new information is released by authorities),
but there may be delays or inaccuracies.
- There may be speed camera locations or enforcement activities that are not shown on RoadScope.
-
A location shown as a camera corridor might not be actively enforced at a particular time.
You must always obey road rules, posted speed limits, traffic signs, and lawful instructions from
authorities, regardless of what RoadScope displays.
Safety notice
- RoadScope is not a navigation app and is not intended for real-time use while driving.
-
You must not use RoadScope in a way that distracts you from driving or that breaches any road rules
(for example, rules about using mobile phones while driving).
-
The information in RoadScope should be used as a planning or awareness tool, primarily before you drive.
Not legal advice or official authority
- RoadScope provides informational visualisation only.
-
It is not an official source of traffic enforcement locations, legal advice, or official guidance.
- Authorities may change camera placements or enforcement practices without notice.
You use the Service at your own risk and remain solely responsible for your driving decisions.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
-
RoadScope and its owner/operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special,
consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
This includes (without limitation):
- fines or penalties you incur for traffic violations
- accidents, injuries, or property damage
- loss of data or corruption of data
- lost profits or business opportunities
- damages arising from third-party services (such as issues caused by Google or Stripe)
- damages arising from acts or omissions of other users or third parties
Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these
Terms will not exceed the amount (if any) that you paid to us for use of the Service in the preceding
12 months. If you have not paid anything (for example, using the Free tier), our liability is $0.
Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any guarantee, condition, warranty, right or remedy that you may
have under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable law that cannot be excluded or limited.
Where we are permitted to limit our liability for a breach of a non-excludable guarantee, our liability
is limited, at our option, to:
- supplying the services again; or
- paying the cost of having the services supplied again.
Driving decisions
You acknowledge that driving behaviour and compliance with road rules remain your sole responsibility. RoadScope is not liable for:
- any decisions you make while driving
- any speeding infringements, fines or penalties
- any other consequences of your driving, regardless of what RoadScope displays.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RoadScope and its owner/operator from and against any and all
claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or
related to:
- your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or any applicable law
- your breach of any representation, warranty, or obligation under these Terms
-
any allegation that any content you submit (if user submissions become available) infringes or violates
the rights of a third party
This indemnity survives termination of your access to the Service.
10. Changes to the Service and Terms
10.1 Service Modifications
We are constantly improving and evolving RoadScope. We may:
- modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, or the Service as a whole, temporarily or permanently
- add, remove, or change features
- change data sources
If we discontinue the Service entirely while you have a paid subscription, we will provide a pro-rata
refund for any remaining subscription period.
For modifications or temporary suspensions, we may not always be able to provide advance notice, but we
will try to minimise disruption.
10.2 Updates to Terms
We may update or revise these Terms from time to time.
If we make a material change, we will:
- post the updated Terms on our site with a new “Last updated” date; and/or
- provide a notice within the application, and in some cases by email if we have your contact details
Continued use of RoadScope after updated Terms are posted constitutes acceptance of those Terms.
If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the Service and cancel any subscription.
You are responsible for reviewing these Terms periodically.
11. Termination
11.1 By You
- You may stop using RoadScope at any time.
-
If you wish to end a paid subscription, you must cancel it (see Section 3.5). After cancellation, your
Paid access will continue until the end of the current billing period, then revert to the Free tier.
- You may clear your local data and revoke Google access as described in the Privacy Policy.
11.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access to RoadScope, with or without notice, if:
- you breach these Terms or applicable law; or
- we are required to do so for legal or regulatory reasons; or
- we discontinue the Service as a whole.
If your access is terminated due to a breach of these Terms, you may not be entitled to any refund for
purchases, and we may block you from creating a new account or accessing the Service.
11.3 Survival
On termination, any provisions of these Terms which by their nature should survive (including but not
limited to Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnity, and Governing Law)
will remain in effect.
12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, or with the use of
RoadScope, are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia, and the federal laws of
Australia where applicable.
You agree that the courts of Victoria (and any courts of appeal from them) have exclusive jurisdiction
to hear and determine any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service,
except where local consumer law requires otherwise.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent
jurisdiction, that provision will be severed and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
13. General Provisions
-
Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the
entire agreement between you and us regarding RoadScope and supersede all prior agreements or
communications regarding the Service.
-
No Waiver: Any failure by us to enforce a provision of these Terms does not constitute
a waiver of that provision or of our right to enforce it later. Any waiver must be in writing.
-
Assignment: You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms
without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations (for example,
in connection with a change of ownership or corporate structure) and will notify users if that occurs.
-
No Partnership: Nothing in these Terms creates any agency, partnership, joint venture,
or employment relationship between you and us.
-
Force Majeure: We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance (other than
payment obligations, if any) caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited
to natural disasters, government actions, war, terrorism, labour disputes, power failures, or internet outages.
